Step 1:
Install your support rails by toe nailing or toe screwing at the end of each support into the neighbouring support.
Step 2:
Install your two cross members. Be sure to use at least two nails on each side, inside and outside to make it as strong as possible.
Step 3:
Install you pickets on each side of the gate in a stockade orientation, two pickets wide.
Step 4:
Picket the rest of the gate in an board on board orientation (or stockade if it is a stockade fence) being sure to notch your latch board for the Max latch & toe latch
MAKE SURE LATCH GAP IS NO MORE THAN 3/4 INCH
Step 5:
Install the hinges by pre-drilling the holes so the lags don't crack the 2x4 support rails
Step 6:
Remove the toe screws or toe nails from the support rails so the hinges are now supporting the gate
Step 7:
Install vertical uprights at the latch (remember to recess back from the edge of the picket) & hinge sides.
Step 8:
Cut out the center of the gate supports so it will open and install latches & drop rod
