The cost of a wood fence is completely dependent on the type of wood used and the installation quality provided by the installer. Most fences in the Orlando area are pressure treated pine because of its lower cost and ability to stand up to our wet climate. We do use 4"x4" posts for the regular posts and 6"x6" posts for gate hinge posts. All posts are anchored with concrete for a stronger support footing. We also use 2"x4" support rails instead of the 2"x3" rails you find on most prefab wood fence panels. We use 5/8"x5-1/2" clipped dog ear fence pickets for the majority of our wood fence installations. For a more premium fence you can go with a cedar picket fence, but the only cedar part of the fence is the pickets (cedar must be sealed or stained every 2-3 years to prevent wood rot). The posts and support rails will still be treated pine. Another consideration that effects cost is the nails being used. We use a premium grade hot dipped galvanized ring shank nails that hold into the wood because of the ring shank ridges on the nails. This makes the nail hold better in the wood as it swells and shrinks. We also use two different lengths of nails, a shorter nail for base layer pickets and a longer nail for the top layer of pickets (for board on board privacy). The longer picket nails cost more because of the unusual 2-1/4" size needed to make it into the support rail without piercing the back side of the rail. When it comes to gates we use three hinges, not two. This provides extra support for the gate as well as adding an anchor point for the mid rail of the gate. We also use a really nice double sided gate latch with a locking mechanism on the inside for security. All gate hardware is black powder coated steel.

Now comes the installation portion that really makes the difference. We do concrete ALL of our posts. Doing this alone adds to the cost of the fence due to the current high cost of concrete. But it is a must to make sure the fence can withstand hurricanes and the severe storms we encounter every year. We use nails guns that are tuned to drive nails the correct depth into the wood to make sure that it will hold and not pull out easily. And our ring shank nails hold much better than the smooth shank nails most companies use, but they also cost more. Another cost is the 6"x6" posts we use for gate hinge posts. They cost more, but the post will hold better and last longer than a standard 4"x4" wood post. We can also use metal posts, but for most customers that is a cost that makes a wood fence too expensive. Last in the list of our installation standards is the gate hardware. We use black powder coated steel hardware that is secured with stronger lag bolts, but simple screws. We pre drill the holes for the lag bolts to help reduce cracking of pickets and rails as the wood swells and contracts, mot installers just drill the lag or screw directly into the pickets and rails which increases the chance of the support rail cracking over time.

Wood fence cost has continued to increase over the years, but if you want a fence that will last, paying a little more for longevity is well worth it. We provide our current pricing above for several fence types and fence heights per linear foot. The math for determining the cost of a wood fence is pretty easy. You take your total linear footage and multiply it by the price for the fence style you want. Then you would add in the cost of any gates. And after that there may be extra cost if we are removing an existing fence or having to work around other obstacles that will take longer than a standard fence installation. Also, please note that the prices for our wood fence are based on a 150' minimum installation. If you have less than 150' of fence as trip fee will be added and can vary from $100 to $400 depending on the footage and time it will take to install your new fence.
  • Posts are set 30 inches in the ground and anchored with concrete. We do dry pack concrete on posts on most of our jobs. This is where we initially set the post with dry concrete then come back and wet it in after the fence is complete. This allows us to nail up the fence without disrupting the concrete curing process.
  • Fences are site built. We build it from the ground up, board by board.
  • Hot dipped, galvanized, ring shank nails (3" for attaching support rails to the posts and 1-3/4" & 2-1/4" for attaching pickets based on the nail length needed to make sure contact it made with the support rails)
  • 6"x6" gate hinge posts.
  • Three hinges per gate leaf.
  • Double sided slide lockable Maxima Deluxe Latch.
  • We use MCA pressure treat pine with a short term weather protector already applied for 99% of our installations. The only other thing we use, in some cases, is a cedar picket. But only when required by the HOA or homeowner. I prefer to use the larger 5/8" x 5-1/2" pine pickets because they are thicker and stronger and will last longer. We use full 2"x4" rails, not 2"x3" rails. And our 4"x4" posts are designed to be installed below ground.
  • We custom build many different styles including stockade privacy, board on board privacy, shadowbox semi-privacy, and picket fencing. As well as several styles of horizontal board wood privacy fence or cap style fence.
